Foot Evaluation Our trained footwear consultants have several methods of evaluating a customer’s needs. Proper sizing and gate analysis are standard with most customers. Both visual and electronic foot analysis can indicate which shoes or inserts to recommend.
A large portion of the population walks with some amount of pronation, or a rotation of the foot and ankle through a step. Most will Over-Pronate which is a turn into the medial side of the foot. A few people may Supinate or Under-Pronate which is a turn outward on the lateral side. A bare-foot examination is the best method for determing the direction and severity of such movement.
Note: the wearing on the soles of shoes does not readily indicate direction or severity of such a movement.
The store is equipped with an electronic pad (an E-med) that helps determine movement and pressure points on the foot. After a few steps over the sensor, a sales person can help guide the customer to inserts and shoes that are appropriate.
Each customer is also measured with a brannock device to determine shoe size. Most people will find that they have at least a half size difference between their feet. Naturally, the larger foot is favored. For athletics shoes, On the Run recommends wearing a half size larger than the brannock suggests. Over the course of a work out, feet swell, the added length helps protect the foot. ![]() |
