What it
is
The plantar fascia is a broad band of fibrous tissue
that runs along the bottom surface of your foot. It
attaches from the bottom heel bone to your forefoot.
When the plantar fascia is over stretched, it causes
plantar fasciitis.
How it happens
Heel pain, heel spurs, and arch pain is often the result of plantar
fasiitis. When the plantar fascia is excessively stretched, it gets
inflamed and can be very discomforting. The most frequent causes of
plantar fasciitis are listed below.
-
Over-pronation
commonly referred to as flat feet that cause the collapsing of
the arch.
-
A foot with an
unusually high arch.
-
Increased physical
activity.
-
Excessive weight
bearing down on the foot.
-
Shoes that do not fit
properly.
A flat foot is the main
cause of plantar fasiitis. When a person walks and the arch
collapses, the plantar fascia is stretched away from the heel bone.
Pain is usually present in
the bottom of the foot, the inside of the foot where the arch and
heel meet. When the foot is rested for long periods of time, the
plantar fascia returns to its original and comfortable shape. The
pain usually is most present after one of these long rests.
