What it is
The metatarsal area is the part of the foot that is right before the toes, more commonly known as the ball of the foot. This disorder of the foot affects the bones and joints in this region. The pain is more present under the 2nd , 3rd and 4th metatarsal heads. the pain is isolated at the 1st metatarsal head which is near the big toe.

How it happens
In this foot condition, one or more of the metatarsal heads becomes painful as a result of inflammation because of excessive pressure over a long period of time. Improper fitting footwear, footwear with too high of a heel, footwear with a narrow toe space are the leading cause of this condition.
